Episode 16: Memory Lane and Other Trinkets

6 May

Episode 16: Memory Lane and Other TrinketsThis week we made Bobby Roberts, the maestro of podcasting, (and co-host of Welcome to That Whole Thing) turn his mic on and let his wisdom flow out. With remarkable aplomb he turns us from the path of tangents and thwarts our awkward breaks in conversation.

A discussion on Game of Thrones turns into why I obsessivley need to search out the worst facets of humanity which turns into Jesse explaining why he began eating nuts to better himself as a person WHICH THEN TURNS INTO a short education on pecans. The Air Wolf! Perry Bible Fellowship! Conversation island!

After that dumbassery we take a walk down memory lane and recall how we drunkenly stumbled in to our terrible friendships with each other and the fine balance between humility and hubris.

What I found most enjoyable about Bold Riley was actually how it was able to accurately mimic old real life legends (Because part of the point of the book was to be like them, but it just so happens that the main character is female instead of the usually portrayed male, as well as other stuff I could get into). The criticism that it’s full of tropes feels like it’s missing hte point. In fact, my favorite tale in that graphic novel was actually precisely for this reason: The second to last tale, with the Water God bird, felt most closely reminiscent of those ancient tales of a hero’s overcoming of adversity with wit, and a little bit of godly help.

The two bars you mentioned are, according to Google, one-fifth of a mile apart and five minutes by foot. Why is that a problem?

For most drinkers having even one watering hole that close is a dream. Those of you dwelling in rum-soaked SE Portland are spoiled.

The tendency that Bobby has that drives me nuts is how he has trouble accepting positive feedback. He always seems to downgrade how talented he is or at least when someone tries to point it out to him. That’s the way I see (hear) it anyways.

I miss the old podcast, but still really enjoy the new one. I miss all the guests on the old show and how each day was a different format, but the new show reminds me a lot of dirty laundry refined which is also good. That’s just my opinion, and we all know, like assholes everyone has one. Either way I will continue to support any endeavors that Cort or Bobby undertake, which also includes getting turned on to new shows/people through them.

Sorry to make the comment all about Bobby and stuff, just hit a nerve I guess. The whole show was really great though and I really hope you were kidding about feeling burned out already (I think you were). This show is one of the highlights of my work week (not sure what that says about my life?) 🙂

Thanks for the entertainment and laughs!
